Due to personnel changes, a vacancy now exists for an Engineering Manager reporting into the Plant Manager. This role is a site management team role and considered succession for Plant Manager roles in the Pet Nutrition Europe Talent pool.


About the Role:

This is a Site Management team role, where you will have a joint responsibility to determine the site strategy and deliver the site metrics, but full accountability on the technical delivery of activities that support these as well as ensuring full compliance with legislation and internal standards.


Your responsibilities:


  • To enable site strategy deployment through creation and implementation of the site asset and infrastructure strategy for this £100m asset site generating £250m NSV. This will take into account the supply business plan for Care and Treats (C&T), technology developments from the European and Global technology teams from the Engineering and R&D functions.
  • To manage teams and resources to develop, evaluate, design, procure, install and commission plant and equipment that meet the requirements and objectives of capital engineering projects that support the petcare C & T supply strategy, whilst ensuring conformance to relevant safety, environmental and food safety legislation and Mars Standards
  • To create, own and implement the site reliability strategy, for both production and infrastructure assets (including software, control and network) in line with site production targets and site development strategy, in order to; maximize the availability and performance of the site asset base; as well as to continuously improve plant reliability, productivity, performance and minimise risk from asset obsolescence or legislative changes.
  • The Engineering representative on the site management team contributing to the development and implementation of the site strategy, delivery of every day excellent supply performance and site engagement through excellence in people management.
  • Line Management and engagement of the site engineering team (project engineers, control engineers, reliability technicians and engineering storemen); responsible for all people performance processes, engagement, training and development.  Delivering team and personal development plans.
  • Actively contributing to the site and wider Mars talent processes to develop supply and engineering talent for the future.
  • Accountable for the site asset master plan to support the supply strategy developed in partnership with the segment Industrial Engineer’s and cluster engineers.
  • Accountable for the site reliability strategy, obsolescence plan, technical legislation conformance and day to day maintenance of the factory, managing a £2m budget. You will have line management responsibility of the Duty holders for key legislative topics; Electricity at work act, Pressure Systems, LOLER, Legionella etc.
  • Project management responsibility for capital projects with a ‘right first time’ approach to ensure delivery to agreed costs, time scales, safety and performance. Managing resources and risks in the short and long term. Ensuring the best technology and lean design is used in all projects.
  • Contribution to the development of new products and technologies to support the innovation pipeline based on technology expertise to support the C&T Cluster engineering team
  • Responsible for the improvement of our Corporate and Social Responsibility of energy and water sustainability agenda, driving technical improvements and working alongside the Operations Manager to implement operational efficiencies that deliver our Sustainable in a Generation Goals

To do this role you’ll need:

  • Accredited Engineering degree Preferred 2.1 honours or Minimum HND in a core engineering discipline completed with a trade apprenticeship
  • People management experience, particularly line management is essential to driving engagement and a high performance culture. The job holder will be approachable and have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven track record in a manufacturing environment delivering
  • Be able to achieve best in class asset availability through the right maintenance techniques.
  • Capital projects of engineering excellence
  • To be able to improve productivity through continuous improvement and game changing engineering solutions
