BACKGROUND

Due to an internal move a vacancy exists reporting into our UK Distribution manager .

The UK logistics operation is contracted out to a range of third party logistics providers. They employ about 800 people to handle the Mars UK business, and the total spend on contracts is in excess of £100 million p.a.

Each year over 120 million cases are handled through the UK Distribution Network and it is important to ensure that every case through the network is handled in the most cost effective way whilst ensuring exceptional service is given to our numerous customers.

Our inbound network is also contracted out to a range of third party logistics network receiving loads from over 30 locations both in the UK and worldwide in many different formats. The increase in co-packed goods is driving more complexity into our supply chain.

 

The role is cross category 24/7 operation between Chocolate, Pet,and Food.

 

THE JOB

The main function of this role is to develop our supplier base in line with internal business developments or external requirements from trade customers to drive performance efficiencies around both service and cost.

 

KEY OUTPUTS  

The job holder is responsible, by closely working with suppliers, internal stakeholders (across sales and demand), the wider supply chain and UK network development manager, for :-

  • Establishing business continuity plans for Distribution operations covering areas such as major events, disaster recovery, strike, weather, fuel shortage etc.
  • Accountable for the distribution reporting suite to ensure key areas of performance are reported internally and remedial actions plans are created where required.
  • Drive strategic changes and consistent performance through the delivery of 1/4rly management reviews with all suppliers.
  • Act as the operational Consultant for other business functions and ensure first point of call for total network information
  • Key interface for LMOS (JTM, Daily and Weekly) process
  • Manage and implement operational requirements for any new warehouse/haulage tender
  • Warehouse Tenders (Total value c£25m)
  • Haulier Tenders (Total value c£18m)
  • Accountable for the design and delivery of a robust Revenue at Risk process with internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop JBP with key suppliers
  • Assess the suitability of new suppliers and implement transition plans to any new solutions
  • Determine and implement supplier KPIs to ensure the delivery of internal and customer KPIs
  • Develop Industry wide network ensuring external business learnings to help influence network development changes (ie Tender Process)
  • Leadership of the ops and cost(4 people) team including coaching and development
  • Leads the assessment of the 0-12 week supply capability assessment and identification of risks and opportunities to the delivery of business plans
