Function/Division: Operations/SupplyReports to: Value Stream Manager



The Operations Support associate is responsible for effective labor planning, overtime management, shift date collection, monitoring of shift level transactions, waste reporting accuracy, tracking improvement ideas, engagement activities, coordinating team training, and assisting the Value Stream Manager and Leads with administrative activities.

    1. Labor Planning
      1. Maintains staffing charts for all production area accounts.
      2. Maintains vacation planning boards or systems ensuring guidelines and policies are followed and appropriate coverage is assigned.
      3. Coordinates call-in coverage for sickness and emergency vacation
      4. Tracks overtime, identifying associates working outside their approved schedules and vacation policies.
      5. Determines and communicates Staff Management change requests.
    2. Material Control
      1. Monitors manual back-flushes (i.e. scrap, chocolate) and communicates any necessary adjustments to scrap accounts and/or chocolate inventories.
      2. Monitors web and ensures finish goods reporting and troubleshooting issues.
      3. Collects and enter packaging scrap transactions.
      4. Participates in weekly waste meeting.
    3. Continuous Improvement and Administrative Support
      1. Maintains data collection systems utilized by operations and support functions facilitating complete, accurate and timely shift data collection and reporting including shift performance notes.
      2. KPI Trending at the Team, Shift, Area, and Site level.
      3. Tracks Continuous Improvement ideas and follow-up.
      4. Updates the training system (Currently MyLearning) for registration and attendance of Operations Training.
      5. Collect and file operations paperwork aligned with WAC site policies.
    4. Other Responsibilities and Duties
      1. Able to perform all routine operator duties and job tasks as needed within a line or area.
      2. Participates in all self-managing team activities and responsibilities.
      3. Effectively communicates and support team objectives.
      4. Supports training of others in duties/tasks.
      5. Performs all routine shift support documentation in a quality manner.
      6. Learns and practices concepts of a Lean organization providing support in Lean implementation for continuous improvement.
      7. Participates in area safety and housekeeping core groups and audits.
      8. Identifies potential safety issues and implements a plan to correct the issue.
      9. Maintains clean and safe work area.



This position requires an individual who is capable or working on projects and assignments in an independent manner with little or no supervision. Intuitive reasoning and communication skills are highly desired. Interpersonal skill are also important due to the high level of interaction with a wide range of associates. Ability to collect and process large amounts of information and present findings in an easily understood manner is required. This position should also be well versed in Lean Manufacturing principles and be capable of supporting these efforts.


    1. Prioritizes daily responsibilities and duties.
    2. Determines best coverage scenario when faced with unplanned absences.
    3. Determines appropriate format for developing performance tracking systems.


    1. Demonstrated competence in interpersonal, problem solving, and training skills.
    2. Excellent computer skills-databases, spreadsheet and presentation software. Proficient ability with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).



Three to five years in manufacturing environment utilizing databases, spreadsheets and word processing software to identity, track and resolve operations issues

An Associate’s degree in Business or Computer Science discipline is preferred or applicable work experience with additional internal and external training.

Basic understanding of the equipment, lines and staffing in the Plant.


  1. Full-Time associate in their current position for at least six months and knowledgeable of current systems and procedures within his/her area.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
  3. Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer systems and software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
  5. Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  6. Must be detail oriented, able to coordinate and organize activities, set priorities, motivate others and meet deadlines.
  7. Must be willing to work rotational shifts.
  8. Excellent problem solving skills is a must.
  9. Must have a performance record that includes the following:

-Performance that indicates the associate meets job expectations

-Meets Mars attendance objectives

-Must be recommended by a manager

-A demonstrated ability to work well with others
