Category Development Leader (Confectionery & Petcare)

A day in the life of an associate 

The purpose of the Category Development Leader is to drive the development and deployment of our category vision and retail pictures of success. 

You will be advising stakeholders on the most effective assortment & shopper initiatives, which ultimately leads to the category's growth. In addition, you play a vital role in bringing these strategies to life in the annual plan process, and you assist the Customer Marketing Head in facilitating this process. As a Category Leadership Manager, you co-create the future portfolio strategies with the portfolio manager and the Customer Activation Managers, the long-term channels strategy. 


You are part of the Category & Customer Marketing Team, and you will work closely with Customer Activation Managers, Portfolio Managers, Field managers, Finance, and Sales Managers.


What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Develops category vision (translation of global category vision) and co-creates with Customer Activation Managers the category vision package to sell to customers;
  • Leverage national market, shopper and customer insights to identify category growth opportunities and create awareness and desire to execute;
  • Develops convincing, insights-driven category solutions that influence the behavior of shoppers and convert more transactions for the mutual benefit of the company and our customers at the point of sale;
  • As a Category Leader, consult other demand functions on strategic initiatives by bringing deep shopper and category understanding;
  • Responsible for developing category growth insights-based solutions and category strategies that meet the needs of consumers, shoppers and customers, realizing the Mars Wrigley Confectionery and Petcare Picture Of Success for the defined priority touchpoints and customers;
  • Identify category growth opportunities for marketing development of category vision at the market level;
  • Develops portfolio / menu card strategy per channel. Provide an overview of category dynamics and shopper measures as inputs to brand plans and innovation;
  • Responsible for the overall Perfect store strategy and management of deployment;
  • Linking pin between global Category Leadership & Perfect Store communities and local organization;


What are we looking for?  

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Background in strategic consulting is preferred


Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of Category Management in Grocery Channel
  • Strong communication skills in Dutch & English
  • High analytical understanding with the ability to derive strategies and measures from the results
  • High communication and presentation skills as well as problem and conflict resolution skills
