Due to the current holder going on maternity leave, we are recruiting a UK Brand and Trade PR Manager to work in the Mars Wrigley Confectionery UK Corporate Affairs team in Slough, reporting to the Senior Manager, UK External Communications.  Working closely with our Marketing/CBU and Category teams, the role leads brand and trade PR for Mars Wrigley Confectionery UK.

 

A key member of the Corporate Affairs function, this role promotes and protects the reputation of our UK Chocolate, Gum and Mints and Fruity Confections brands through proactive and reactive PR.

 

The successful applicant will have an external-facing role and will have to opportunity to work on many of our most exciting product launches and brand activities in 2019.

 

In this role you will:

  • Lead Brand PR to develop, implement and proactively manage brand and marketing communication programmes to enhance our brand and corporate reputation through positive media coverage.
  • Be a strategic partner to the CBU/Marketing function by championing and advising on all UK brand PR campaigns and acting as everyday sense check on Marketing Code and Corporate Messaging .
  • Ensure that the timely and appropriate engagement with Corporate Affairs is embedded within Mars Wrigley Confectionery UK brand activity and the process for bringing to life marketing campaigns and promotions to ensure the the maximum potential impact of brand and trade PR and the appropriate governance and mitigation of external reputational risks.
  • Champion role of the Marketing Advisory Group (MAG) and co-ordinate MAG schedule, working with Marketing teams to ensure that our responsible marketing standards are upheld.
  • Lead and develop trade PR communication plans: including managing the agency and budget, supporting external trade media partnerships and projects and building strategic partnerships with internal Marketing, Sales and Category Management Teams to leverage new opportunities and drive the customer and shopper agenda.
  • Work with Corporate Affairs team to drive oral health benefits of chewing sugar-free gum through trade PR to drive overall category growth.
  • Develop and keep up-to-date core external-facing and media Q&As, key brand and category messages and statements for marketing activities, new product launches and advertising campaigns in partnership with the Marketing, External Communications and Consumer Care teams.
  • Build relationships with key trade media contacts and publishing houses and act as a spokesperson for the Company where necessary
  • Manage trade PR budget and administration

    Please note that this role helps to support the External Communications team to manage UK press office enquiries, corporate and brand issues and crisis as required. Due to the external environment, the jobholder will be required at times to work outside of normal working hours and will take part in the out-of-hours on-call rota along with other members of the team.  

     

To do this role you’ll need:

  • Strong experience in PR and communications, building and executing PR plans and agency management is essential, as are excellent presentation and writing skills.
  • Specific brand and trade PR knowledge, social media savvy and experience of issues and crisis management is highly desireable
  • Strong level of autonomy and ability to work with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Organisational Agility and a collaborative approach with an ability to work across function, geography and other segments to build networks is desireable
  • Action orientated with strong organisational skills and a drive for results and with an ability to work under time pressure while maintaining composure is essential
  • Experience of budget management and finance systems would be preferable
