As an associate in Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, the Senior Principal Scientist creates and sustains a competitive advantage for Mars Wrigley in the region, enhances the reputation of Mars externally, and supports the achievement of its overall business goals by leading the external scientific and regulatory influencing strategy related to food contact materials and food safety related legislation. 


The Senior Principal Scientist works proactively with relevant internal partners to assess new regulatory developments in packaging materials, technologies and food safety legislation and develops the strategy to ensure appropriate positions are taken externally and internally.


This position is accountable for establishing the regulatory compliance framework for packaging materials, add-on items, and promotional items and demonstrates leadership in developing standards, systems and processes to support compliance in his/her field of responsibility.    


What are we looking for?

  • Industry experience in a technical area with specific experience conducting regulatory compliance for packaging materials and premia (e.g. toys) is required.
  • Experience working with trade associations, packaging research associations, government agencies and vendors to clarify and resolve regulatory matters regarding packaging materials or food safety regulations would be advantageous.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technical area, such as food chemistry, food science, chemistry, toxicology, chemical or packaging engineering or material science.  A higher degree would be advantageous.


What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Accountable for the development and execution of the external scientific and regulatory influencing strategy related to food contact materials and food safety legislation in the region. 
  • Accountable for providing strategic scientific guidance and clear recommendations to relevant internal partners on existing and emerging scientific and regulatory issues for packaging materials and food safety matters.
  • Influences internal and external strategy development by tracking and monitoring key developments in the science and regulatory area of packaging material and food safety.
  • Ensures that standards, systems, processes and test programs are in place and remain state of the art to ensure newly developed or revised packaging materials, add-on items, PREMIA, and seasonal promotions meet regulatory requirements so that they can be marketed in the target countries and is accountable for the compliance of these materials in the region.
