Factory Safety and Environment Advisor

 £40,000-£48,000 + 12% bonus + benefits




When it comes to FMCG manufacturing opportunities, they don't come bigger than Mars. The primary purpose of this role is to continually drive the safety agenda within Mars ensuring that people’s safety is the no.1 priority. This is currently achieved through running an effective safety management system, good data analysis, targeted safety risk campaigns as well as being a key stake holder in investment decisions from design through to handover and beyond. This is instrumental in ensuring that we're able to continue to produce 3 million Mars Bars each day. That's not to mention enabling us to supply our consumers with Galaxy, Maltesers, Minstrels and much more!

This role also has a very broad sphere of influence from helping steer the site management team when setting site safety objectives or goals through to coaching associates and contractors in the factory around the correct manual handling techniques, for example.


Key responsibilities

  • Effectively run and maintain the current site safety management system (OHSAS 18001)
  • Develop and implement the site safety programme to drive our continuous improvement.
  • Provide safety data to all levels of the business so that managers can provide leadership to their teams
  • Ensure that all Safety incidents are suitably investigated and conclusions/follow through actions are clearly identified with action owners.
  • Support a professional working relationship with our regulators, local authorities and other stakeholders
  • Ensure that: - i) designers and engineers are installing equipment that complies with legislation and corporate standards ii) potential hazards have been assessed with relevant HSE risks managed appropriately.
  • The development and delivery of HSE training packages to all associates providing them with the appropriate competencies required for the roles they undertake.



What background will you have?

  • The role requires an in-depth knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and corporate standards as well as the ability to distil   these requirement into a workable solution for the site.

  • Preferably Degree qualified with at least a NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety Management or NVQ LvL 4

  • Technical/Operation experience in Mars would be desirable.
