Senior Manager - Global Ingredient, Formulation & Alternative Proteins 

 

The Global Dry Ingredient, Formulation & Alternative Protein Senior Manager is a critical leadership role within the Global Dry Innovation Centre (Dry GIC). The role will support the business growth targets across a broad range of portfolios & brands to help deliver our ambition of +$250Million Incremental NSV year on year.
Accountable for the development and delivery of the Global Raw Material and Formulation strategies in support of the innovation pipelines for the Dry brand portfolios. This should be done in-line with business needs, R&D science and innovation strategies and through leadership of and development of the talent within the team. 
Accountable for developing and delivering in collaboration with external suppliers, a pipeline of alternative protein solutions enabling both our growth & COGS agendas. Plant based nutrition and alternative protein technologies have been growing exponentially in the human food space and Pet food is quickly following. The growth opportunity for 2025 is anticipated to reach approx. $80M incremental NSV. On top of the growth opportunity, the alternative protein program should unlock both supply chain assurance solutions as well as COGS/prime savings opportunities.

 

What are we looking for?

  • University degree level in a scientific/technical subject. BSc/MSc/PhD in Science, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Food Technologist (or similar) 
  • Experienced in cross-cultural sensitivity gained through a minimum of 5 years in a regional or global role.
  • Minimum 10 years R&D experience in a business environment including track record of line management experience.
  • A proven track record in executing R&D strategies. Demonstrated ability to Influence  and integrate R&D, Marketing, Commercial and Supply to jointly enable the broader business agenda. 
  • Known history of success with leading global teams, including talent development through effective mentoring of associates globally.

 

What would your key responsibilities be?

Ingredients and Formulation
•    Responsible for developing new ingredient technology strategies and work streams in support of our Dry portfolio innovation pipelines unlocking growth sufficiency for the various Dry brands we support.
•    Aligning the Global Raw Materials and Formulation strategies and programs with all relevant stakeholders (R&D, Commercial, Supply, Marketing) across the business ensuring a strong focus on delivering supply chain assurance, quality improvements and COGS savings. 
•    Accountable for providing the formulation & nutritional expertise to inform the scope of our global innovation project briefs & guide the viability of broader deployment . 
•    Accountable for leading the program with external supplier partners to identify breakthrough alternative natural preservation solutions to support our OGSM growth ambitions.  


Alternative Protein (Royal Canin and Pet Nutrition)
•    Responsible for creating technically feasible & financially viable strategies to enable the integration of alternative protein solutions into our future innovation pipelines and supply chain planning.
•    Develop strategies in service of both PN (Dry, Wet and C&T) and Royal Canin. Identify novel solutions which can unlock cost savings, sustainability claims, supply chain/sourcing flexibility  
•    Collaborate with Waltham and Food Safety teams, to ensure clear planning and prioritization of food safety testing for alternative protein materials and regulatory evaluation coordination.
•    Accountable for the Horizon scanning of potential technologies & competitive activity in the alternative protein space. Collaborate closely with MARI & Waltham, integrating science & technology at the program level.
•    Collaborate with Commercial to build a network of strategic supplier partnerships & Identify financially viable, technically feasible and scalable solutions.


Developing talent and a centre of expertise
•    Responsible for talent development in the area of formulation and novel ingredient technology. Ensure the team has right capabilities to deliver the project pipeline, with appropriate rigor, for building and nurturing a center of expertise around formulation and raw materials, with the appropriate pipeline of experts.
•    Responsible for ensuring the Ingredient, Formulation & Alternative Protein team are highly engaged associates, understanding their different roles & responsibilities & how they can best support the growth  agenda  


Quality
•    Drive adherence to and development of MQM, in collaboration with other departments (raw material management) across the globe to enable global scale with raw material portfolio management.


Leadership 
•    Member of the Dry GIC Leadership Team
•    Provides technical thought leadership, direction and engagement behind Global Raw materials and Formulation team
•    Acts as the prime interface for the Global Commercial category leads (Proteins, Essentials) and ensures effective collaboration & alignment on the areas of shared responsibilities/priorities.
•    Build a strong network with the PN regional customers and the Royal Canin team
