Global Agroecology and Sustainability Sourcing Director (W/M/X)

This is aligned to its long-term strategic business plans and given the increasing expectations of customers, consumers, clients and key stakeholders for Royal Canin to demonstrate leadership in this essential area. 

The Agroecology & Sustainable Sourcing Director will be accountable for the development and deployment of agronomic actions and Raw Materials sustainable sourcing programs for Royal Canin globally.  As an expert in agroecology and sustainable sourcing, this leader will ensure the technical rigor, robust activation, external credibility, and internal visibility of this essential work within Mars and across Raw Material supply chains. 

The Agroecology & Sustainability Sourcing Director will drive the sustainability strategy in the Commercial function, being a member of the Global Commercial Leadership team, and will partner with the Global Strategic Sourcing Director to lead the roadmap from farmers to suppliers and consortia across the globe.


What are we looking for?

•    Must have a minimum of 10+ years experience in Commercial, Agroecology, Sustainability, Sustainable Sourcing, Climate Action, Project Management, Data Analysis or Strategy in a global FMCG
•    Deep technical expertise in Agroecology, corporate climate strategy and sourcing programs, as well as climate accounting, strategy and action
•    Extensive experience working in and/or closely with Commercial senior leaders to develop and deploy corporate sustainability, sustainable sourcing and climate action plans within a global FMCG
•    Deep knowledge of the external service provider and partner landscape, and the ability to develop, leverage and successfully manage global partnerships to facilitate our plan delivery 
•    Strong familiarity with responsible sourcing approaches, best-practice, emerging trends and experience effectively deploying such programs globally

•    An excellent relationship-builder with very strong inter-personal and stakeholder management skills – self-directed and able to work independently 
•    Brilliant people-management skills, able to successfully motivate and drive results with a global team 
•    Excellent issue management and tension resolution skills – ability to identify root causes of complex issues and successfully navigate their resolution
•    Excellent English written and communication skills
•    Passionate about sustainability and the value it can bring to the planet, our people and to Mars

What would be your key responsibilities?


•    Partner with the designated, accountable Raw Materials Commercial leads in Royal Canin around the world to ensure the effective development and deployment of climate action and sustainable sourcing programs, with responsibility for the successful delivery of the 10-year climate roadmap and the Next Generation Sourcing program across multiple supply chains and aspects of Mars operations, including improving impacts in the areas of human rights, carbon footprint, deforestation, and responsible workplace management.
•    Serve as Royal Canin’s commercial expert on climate, agroecology, across topics such as climate accounting, emissions reduction strategies, insetting and offsetting approaches, LCAs and footprint analysis, and carbon neutrality and net zero strategies – working in close collaboration with Mars central experts and RC Sustainability team to deploy agreed strategies
•    As the sole Expert in Agroecology, he/she/they will initiate, create and then lead a roadmap to intervene on our supply chain from farmers, breeders, to renderers, starch manufacturers and any kind of supplier. He/she/they will propose original and efficient programs to reach our targets.
•    In partnership with RC and the wider Mars’ sustainability teams, develop and maintain a robust strategic framework and performance reporting mechanism for climate action and sustainable sourcing, enabling internal and external results reporting and senior leader decision-making. 
•    Successfully manage a team of three Sustainable Sourcing Managers with responsibility for facilitating the effective deployment of programs globally and in key markets, as well as robust data analysis and tracking.
•    Engage externally with suppliers, customers and key stakeholders to positively influence Royal Canin - Mars reputation and to build partnerships and alliances that advance the work.
•    Build and influence a network of external partners and advisors that deliver both competence and capacity to Royal Canin and the wider Petcare, independently managing complex external partnerships and related budget and programs.  
•    Bring world class thought leadership and expertise to Royal Canin to define & embed climate action and sustainable sourcing as a core business competency.
