Purpose of Role:


The Meat Prep Operator is responsible for discharging meat from the freezer, stripping the plastic over wrap, inspecting the meat for odor and foreign materials, moving the meat to the Condux, the meat grinders, and the bunkers.  Their work includes troubleshooting, operator training, preventive maintenance and sanitation in the area.


Principal Accountabilities:


This includes but is not limited to the following:

Responsible to keep area operating.  This area consists of the crane, Condux, slicer/dicer, grinders and bunkers.
Change the grinder blades as necessary.
Follow safety/LOTO procedures.
Check and clean the various magnets used to pull ferrous metal from the meat.
To discharge and process meat based on the recipe needs using the Wonderware computer system.
To drive forklifts used to transfer meat.
To relieve the Bin Hauler for breaks.
To keep and maintain an open and professional line of communication with other associates and managers.
To assist in system start-ups.
Can perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot and cold, dust, dirt and chemicals.
To thoroughly train associates new to the area.
Able to complete all tasks in the area abiding by Mars Safety Practices.
Able to complete all tasks in the area assigned by manager abiding by the Quality Practices and Mars Safety Practices.

Mission Critical Competencies:


The ability to lift 60 pounds.
Able to perform a physically active job.
Able to work in a cold (35-45 degree) and damp environment.
To have basic computer knowledge, being able to use the crane software (Wonderware).
Forklift Certification
To understand and quickly communicate issues that will effect recipe batching.
Each associate is responsible to complying to the Mars Petcare quality and food safety practices,    procedures, QMP and other auditable quality, food safety and regulatory standards in order to ensure a safe and quality product intended to delight the consumer.

Key Functional Skills / Knowledge:

Operate the Discharge Crane as required:
a.   Read pull list to determine meat type and amount that needs to be discharged from freezer

            b.   Operate discharge crane and conveying system

            c.    Discharge meats.

            d.    Return meats to freezer when necessary.

            e.    Make new bar code labels for meats that will be returned to freezer

            f.    Operate Discharge Crane to support maintenance in freeing up jammed pallets.

            g.    Responsible for relieving the Bin Hauling positions.


Perform the Bin Hauling position as required.
Perform other functions as required.
Service, clean and operate the Condux, screws, meat grinders, slicer/dicer and bunkers


The primary qualifications of this position are:


Most recent Performance appraisal with a minimum of “Meets” expectations and not more than 1 year old.
No active caution notices.
Acceptable attendance.
Physical requirements: Ability to perform all needed physical activities without restrictions. (Maximum of 50 pounds lifting.)
A current certification to operate a forklift or the ability to certify prior to start-up.
