The role functions as a member of an area team that is directly responsible for the efficient production of quality products in the required quantities. This role will operate/change over specified machinery in the assigned area. Production Operators must ensure efficiency, operational conformance, product quality and continuous improvement.  Production Operators must have the skill set to train and/or perform the tasks of other associates in the area as needed. This job requires strong communication, interpersonal and team building skills to support site objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1.       Properly extrude the formulas issued by the Pet Food Corporate office being certain that the product meets all quality specifications.

2.       Properly operate the extruders, dryers and coating application systems and other related equipment.

  • Adjust equipment as necessary to ensure a quality product is produced.
  • Properly lubricate equipment to ensure guaranteed life of all parts.
  • Practice the Lock-Out Tag-Out program when doing maintenance and/or repair.
  • Insure that finished product meets all quality standards and run documentation completed.
  • Insure that finished product is properly formed and coated.
  • Insure equipment is run efficiently and dies set up and are ready for the next run.

3.       Ingredients

  • Assure quality ingredients are being extruded.
  • Collect samples for Quality Assurance as required.
  • Check product density hourly.
  • Perform analysis for fat, moisture, and protein hourly.
  • Continually check product size, shape and color.
  • Insure the formulated amount of fat, acid and dry coating is being properly applied.
  • Insure equipment and area is cleaned and maintained.

4.       Safety of all employees and equipment.

  • Keep all equipment in a safe operating condition.
  • Practice safety Lock-Out Tag-Out procedures.
  • Keep area in a clean and neat manner.
  • Be aware of and follow all plant safety rules. (wear bump hats, ear protection, no rings, etc).
  • Wear proper PPE at all times. 

 

 Ability to lift 52 lbs.

Ability to move light to moderately heavy objects.

Ability to visually receive and differential colors.

Ability to understand written and printed material.

Ability to understand verbal information.

Ability to actively exchange ideas/thoughts with others.

Ability to detect, recognize, judge differences or changes in sound.

Ability to monitor machines or equipment to make sure they are operating properly; note changes in what machines measure or monitor.

Ability to work up to12 hour shifts under stressful conditions such as heat, cold, high and /or confined spaces and have mobility with ability to climb ladders and stairs and do repetitive bending and twisting.

Ability to work long hours and be available on a call in basis.

Ability to handle tools or equipment.

Ability to work under tight schedules in high-pressure situations.
