Job Purpose/Overview

 

As an associate of global Scientific & Regulatory Affairs (SRA), the Senior Specialist SRA performs a variety of scientific and regulatory activities to ensure compliance globally of our raw materials.  The role also supports SRA business processes, standards and systems development, deployment and continuous improvement through metrics.   This position partners with R&D, IT, Commercial, Corporate teams to provide regulatory support these activities.  . This position proactively monitors the regulatory environment relevant to the business, analyze the business impact, and takes action as appropriate to mitigate risk.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

INGREDIENT COMPLIANCE

 

  • Leads Mars Wrigley Confectionery’s global ingredient review process, including maintaining databases with key regulatory information and documentation on ingredients to ensure compliance in Mars Wrigley Confectionery’s products worldwide.
  • Supports the company’s global ingredient harmonization activities, and support regionals SRA in the preparation and submission of technical documents, dossiers and petitions to regulatory bodies and governments in order to gain approval of ingredients
  • Coordinates global SRA change management program for ingredient, formula and packaging

 

RECIPE SYSTEM TRANSFORMATION

 

  • Support the improvement of regulatory functionality in the recipe system and drive harmonized global business processes
  • In collaboration with regional SRA subject matter experts, build strategic framework of future systems configuration

 

 

TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP & EXTERNAL ENGAGEMENT

  • Deep understanding of business needs and external SRA environment to develop and drive necessary activities related to key topics important to Mars Wrigley Serves as a strategic partner for regional SRA associates and business stakeholders on key technical topics.
  • Proactively monitors and interprets existing and proposed regulations, conducts risk and opportunity assessments, and propose clear recommendations to the business.
  • Leads Regulatory Change Management harmonization and standardization for MWC through partnership with regional SRA and Mars Corporate.
  • Provides critical support and leadership to SRA Standards impacting SRA.
  • Represents the company position on external trade associations and committees.
  • Serves as regulatory resource for external suppliers and internal partners, including R&D, Legal, Commercial, etc. to address regulatory questions/issues.
  • Provides support to quality processes and Quality Management Process (QMP) principles

 

INNOVATION SUPPORT

 

  • Provides global regulatory guidance to key stakeholders on innovation projects, with a focus on ingredient and recipe compliance and claims risk assessment.
  • Supports MWC’s Health and Wellness (H&W) strategy by providing global regulatory guidance

 

Context and Scope

 

The Senior Specialist SRA applies technical, organizational, and project managerial skills broadly to provide leadership and guidance to R&D, Legal, Commercial, IT, Corporate Affairs, other internal partners and Mars SRA partners on regulatory matters, recommend options and implement solutions to resolve problems to assure regulatory compliance of our ingredients and products.

 

  • Works with a high level of independence, based on regulatory knowledge and experience, to make decisions and deploy best practices that assure global compliance of ingredients, mitigate regulatory risks, and maximize the company's freedom to operate.
  • Works internally and externally to reach consensus and ensure governance on policies, systems, standards and business processes related to regulatory compliance that have broad impact across the company.

 

Job Specifications/Qualifications

 

Education & Professional Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Food Safety, or Food Process Engineering is required
  • MS in relevant science area (above) and additional training course work in regulatory science is preferred

Knowledge/Experience

  • 5 years' or more of experience in regulatory affairs at a food, beverage, or consumer products company is required
  • International regulatory experience is a preferred
  • Experience with confectionery products and ingredients is preferred
