This role can sit out of any Mars Wrigley US hub site. Preferably Chicago, IL. 


Job Purpose:

The Q&FS Technical Auditor will perform complex-level professional internal or external audit work. The work involves leading or conducting operational and compliance audit projects, providing feedback to the organization’s management and staff; and providing key input to development of the risk-based annual internal audit plan. The Technical Auditor will maintain all organizational and professional ethical standards.


The Technical Auditor will be a global expert in the Q&FS technical standards and the audit framework.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and evaluates the organization’s audit risk areas and provides key input to the development of the risk-based annual internal audit plan.
  • Performs audit procedures, including identifying and defining compliance gaps, developing criteria, reviewing and analyzing evidence, and documenting client processes and procedures.
  • Conducts interviews, reviews documents, develops and administers surveys and composes written and oral audit reports with comprehensive findings logs.
  • Identifies, develops, and documents audit issues and recommendations for improvement using independent judgment concerning areas being reviewed.
  • Confidently escalates critical audit findings to Corporate and Segment Management.
  • Develops and maintains productive team-oriented client and staff relationships through individual contacts and group meetings.
  • Represents internal auditing on organizational project teams and at management meetings.
  • Provides input into the development and modification of global Q&FS standards.
  • Leads or assists in communicating the results of audit via written reports and oral presentations on a timely basis to Corporate and Segment Management.
  • Performs related work as assigned by audit management.


Context & Scope:

The Technical Audit Program is fundamental in the Mars Incorporated drive towards Compliance, and the Technical auditors are the pillars of the program. The Technical Auditors will represent Global Q&FS, the Standard Owners and the overall Audit Program while on location, leading or conducting Technical Audits around the world.


The job holder will provide in-depth expertise and technical leadership in audit at the global level and will work in tight collaboration with the Corporate Team, as well as the other Segments in the areas of R&D and Global Quality.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, food science, or a similar field.
  • Three (3) years auditing experience
  • Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems, and drawing logical conclusions.  
  • Considerable skill in effective verbal and written communications, including active listening skills and skill in presenting findings and recommendations for improvement to managers at each location, as well as other senior managers.
  • Considerable skill in planning and project management, and in maintaining composure under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, staff, and external contacts, and to work effectively in a professional team environment.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel to up to 60% to domestic and/or international locations.
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours per day while conducting audits.


Strongly Preferred:

  • Three (3) years auditing experience within CPG
  • Experience as an accredited external auditor for a GFSI recognized scheme and/or in a large corporation’s internal audit program.
  • Experience with auditing petcare, chocolate, confectionary or food manufacturing sites.
  • Expert level knowledge of the Mars Quality and Food Safety Standards.
  • Knowledge of GMP’s, HACCP, SOPs, and FSMA, auditing and inspections as well as environmental guidelines.
  • External Lead Auditor certification to FSSC 22000, BRC Issue 6 or equivalent.
