The Principal Technologist Quality Systems is responsible for managing elements of the quality management system such as non-conforming product, traceability and document control for the manufacturing site. The role is also responsible for sampling and testing of incoming materials.  The role ensures these processes are effective and drives continuous improvement to ensure compliance to Quality Management Process (QMP).

Key Responsibilities

• Manage non-conforming product inventory and traceability for product manufactured and packed at the site
• Ensure timely disposition of held product (sampling, destruction, release, donation)
• Conduct bi-annual site trace and retrieval exercise
• Assure non-conforming product inventory management through monitoring of Red Prairie and SAP transactions
• Key user of Atlas/SAP outbound processes including report generation and knowledge of inbound system
• Key user for the Nexus system for the site
• Reporting and trending of PRIMPs and non-conforming product  
• Maintains the document control process for the site and ensures that documentation is readily retrievable
• Drive continuous improvement in Quality systems (Hold Management, traceability and ISO systems)
• Deliver training for Hold Management, traceability programs and related best practices. 
• Manage process documents for Hold Management, Document control and traceability (define and update documents needed for QMP compliance)
• Work with others to improve processes and systems through innovation, effective change control, research, and auditing. 
• Maintain inventory of code date stamps for the site according to the corporate code date calendar.
• Conduct internal audits
• Participate in the site sensory program
• Responsible for ensuring incoming materials are properly sampled at required frequency
• Conduct testing on incoming materials

Context and Scope

• Partners with Site Supply team, Logistics and R&D and other key stakeholders to implement changes such as new process or procedures to ensure non-conforming product, traceability and document control are working effectively and efficiently.
• Provides technical expertise in Nexus system to key users as it relates to document control and non-conformance management.
• This position is primarily a hands-on role; the position requires strong organizational skills and be able to schedule and prioritize daily work to assure meeting deadlines. Must be able to multi-task effectively and able to adapt to unplanned priority changes while maintaining consistent, high quality work standards. This position also needs to demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as function as an effective team member. A strong knowledge documentation as well interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal are also must haves.


• High School degree or equivalent

• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing  environment

• Must be able to lift 50lb (22.7kg)
• Must be able to walk and stand for extended times during an 8-hr shift
• Travel to other MARS sites and vendors required 5-20%, may include international travel
• Basic mathematical and computer skills
• Flexibility to work overtime as needed

• Competence in SAP Systems
• Associates Degree in science related field and 1+ year experience in quality or manufacturing

• Ability to work with others in teams
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Demonstrate self-motivation and initiative
• Knowledge of GMP, Quality and Food Safety Management, food safety risk identification and management, HACCP and prerequisite controls
• Competence with computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint
