Mars Wrigley R&D VP - New Territories

 

The Mars Wrigley R&D VP - New Territories is a key senior leader within the global R&D Innovation teamIt is responsible for  working with a team of highly technical leaders and business partners to translate technology, insight, design, develop, and deliver innovations for the new territories and adjacencies areas of growth. It is responsible for working with internal and external partners to identify global innovation opportunities, working with cross functional teams to translate consumer insights into growth opportunities. It is also responsible for facilitating the development of technology innovation platforms for the transversal and adjacencies areas globally. It is accountable for the process of creation, governance and execution of the innovation programs and work streams allocated as part of the growth agenda. The VP New Territories Innovation is responsible for the innovation direction and commercialization outcomes.

The VP New Territories leads global innovation Research and Development for new territories and is a member of the R&D Innovation leadership team.  They drive step-changing  innovation and sustainable business growth through delivery of market leading innovations in new platform and territories. They play a critical role in the reinvention and shaping the innovation pipeline and in leading the successful development of the enterprise innovation pipeline of projects.

 

The VP New Territories is responsible for the innovation direction and commercialization outcomes in new business areas. Reporting to the VP Innovation this role will champion and oversee, exploration, opportunity identification, new product conceptualization,  design, and development and delivery of innovation. They will drive the reinvention of the product portfolio through the prioritization and successful deployment of differentiated and highly relevant offerings to the market. This person will explore and champion the use of new and leading-edge innovation approaches and models to drive business growth.

 

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor of Science in a technical area including engineering, chemistry, food science or Scientific area is required.
  • In addition to the minimum requirements, a MBA, or a master's degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, food science or Scientific area would be preferred.
  • 10+ years of Senior level Line Management experience - development of direct reports and building teams
  • Building external partnership through open innovation - must have experience in external open innovation and execution
  • Proven Project management skills typically acquired through 10+ years of professional experience in leading NPD projects as the key technical member on a cross-functional team. Hands on experience in the development and successful launch of new products, packages and processes.
  • Proven track record of management of complex projects through execution, preferably with cross functional teams
  • knowledgeable in covering food safety and food hygiene programs, process, printing and legislation and raw materials
  • Hands on experience in the development and successful launch of new products, packs and processes.
  • High degree of ownership for his/her work, a big sense of urgency and an action-biased , positive attitude.
  • Good critical thinking, able to operate independently
  • The ability to inspire and influence senior stakeholder groups, and Experience managing and leading teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, people development skills and learning agility.
  • Experience creating meaningful business growth strategies, strong knowledge of our categories at a global level
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and influencing skills as well as a strong change agent.

What would your key responsibilities be?

  • Champions and Leads development and implementation of the technical strategic direction for the New Territories Platform R&D innovation organization that supports the portfolio reinvention business strategy and long-term plans.
  • Work closely with the VP innovation R&D to develop the Strategy and direction for the New Territories Platform organization and in the identification of the S&T, external partnership, and SRA support needed to drive the innovation strategy.
  • Work closely with the VP Innovation in the management and development of the innovation portfolio using external/internal deep technical knowledge to develop, deliver and fuel the 5-year New Territories portfolio pipeline.
  • This person will build, explore and champion the use of new and leading-edge innovation approaches, partnerships, and models to drive business growth.
  • Provides management, scientific leadership and creativity in initiating, designing and executing the New Territories platform Innovation Strategy.
  • Identifies and drives, in conjunction with innovation peers, activities to support the long-term innovation strategy of the New Territories platform.
  • Works with the internal and external Science and Technology teams on promising areas of research or technology that address unmet customer needs and have large potential markets.
  • Provides leadership for the Enterprise New Territories R&D organization
  • Defines and Sets priorities for projects identified for the innovation platforms; identifies and secures appropriate technical resources to bring project through to commercialization
  • Partners with the VP Innovation and Portfolio VPs of Marketing to input on the long-term strategy for innovation portfolio.
  • Uses deep consumer understanding & technical knowledge to develop, deliver and fuel the 5-year pipeline.
  • Leads cross-functional teams in new wow, methodologies and design thinking ways of working to deliver new and novel innovation.
  • Acts as a key link with Science and Technology teams to help set technology and research strategies required by growth agenda.
  • Remains abreast of new developments in food technologies, products, packaging, design, category trends and related fields
  • Continually works to scope innovation programs and ensures the technical feasibility of the projects.
  • Manager of a highly technical team that are specialist and generalists in this platform area; is responsible for further development of the relevant capabilities in this platform area that will deliver the needs of the future innovation.
  • Responsible for Developing Direct reports: Responsible for motivating, inspiring, engaging and developing the individual team members.
  • Connects with peers in other regions, and other functions to harmonize Innovation projects, share best practices, and accelerate the global deployment of new innovations.
