Process Engineer Leader - Mars Pet US: Dry, Care and Treats  (Relocation available)

 

This position is responsible for leading and providing extensive knowledge and expertise of scientific disciplines to support Process and Product Development, Packaging, Q&FS, Regulatory, Engineering, Supply, as well as cross functional teams.  This position executes projects for Mars Pet focused on product formats across the Platform. Performs engineering assignments as part of a work team involved in the planning, organizing, and developing new-technology and innovation as it relates to the Pet Unit.  Significant collaboration is expected with all scientists and engineers in the Product and Packaging areas, Pilot Plant management, Quality Services, Engineering, manufacturing environment, and Global R&D Innovation Teams.

 

What are we looking for?

•  Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Food, Mechanical Engineering or relevant field.  Master's or PHd Preferred

•  Minimum 8 years in R&D or Engineering development; 15 years+ preferred
•  Pet Industry  experience(Dry, Care, Treats) preferred.

•  Proven knowledge and experiences in scientific disciplines such as Process and Product Development, Packaging, QF&S, Regulatory, Engineering and Supply.

• Expert knowledge of unit operations within manufacturing as well as an engineering and scientific perspective

•  Ability to travel as needed.

•  Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program in a related field, or equivalent work experience.
•  Multi-site working experience.
• Proven creative, value-added, results producer

 

What would your key responsibilities be?

  • Lead expert in projects related to food science principles such as starch gelatinization, meat science, as well as the thermal process for single and twin screw extrusion and injection moulding.
  • Lead expert in microbiological implications in the Dry and Cares & Treats platform.  
  • Provide technical and scientific leadership & support to Process and Product Development, Q&FS, Regulatory, Packaging, Operations, Platform teams, and Cross Functional teams.
  • Builds and maintains the knowledge capture and training of technical associates within the Platform.  
  • Expertise in test plan development, experimental setup, test execution and data analysis to quantify key process and packaging machine parameters and fundamental mechanisms at both pilot and factory scale.
  • Deliver scalable process specifications collaboratively developed with Product Development and Supply Engineering to achieve exceptional product attribute targets and ensure superior product quality and food safety.
  • Partner with the engineering team to assist in the management of scale-up risk and introduction of technology into supply chain.
  • Advise and direct leadership on direction of future innovations.  
  • Scan and deliver IP opportunities in established space as well as greenfield opportunities.
  • Identify and evaluate innovative processing options based on product attribute requirements including evaluation based on technical and economic feasibility.
  • Lead translation of technology ideas into visual, physical models and working prototypes.
  • Lead as the Platform R&D representative and direct the management of scale-up risk, introduction of technology, recommendation of equipment into supply chain and business continuity.
