Global Petcare External Manufacturing Q&FS Manager



Location : All European Petcare hub

Contract : permanent contract


This role is responsible for supporting Q&FS and PPPI (Product, Process & Packaging Implementation) for the Petcare External Manufacturing, Co-Packing, Licensing and Premia portfolio, supplied from various global locations. 


What will be your key responsibilities?

•    Responsible for supporting all Petcare regions for all the co-manufacturing technical activities (qualifying, auditing, development, validations, setting-up the quality technical schedules, recipes, quality, micro controls/verification, process design, packaging and finished product acceptance) 
•    Support regions in Q&FS incidents in external factories (co packers and co manufacturers)
•    Lead the fit-for purpose development and implementation of the Petcare and Mars Standard on Co Manufacturing
•    Support the co-manufacturing line trials on existing/new production lines e.g. raw material testing/recipe changes etc. and/or scaling-up of production for new products/varieties in order to ensure that the agreed product design characteristics are achieved. 
•    Lead the development for the technical principles and the guidance to support the new Petcare initiatives for external manufacturing, e.g. test & learn, create the new.
•    Support in the conducting of the technical evaluations/audits in order to select potential co-manufacturers / co packers to produce our product to in line with our requirements. 
•    Develop risk assessments based on their quality systems and processes
•    Develop and deploy a co-packing standard for all co-packing activities, whether stand-alone or within distributor warehouses. 
•    Develop the capability of external factory partners, particularly in the area of quality and food safety
•    Confirm and improve process capabilities to meet product specifications consistently and effectively
•    Uses the R&D Model and data to drive continuous improvement and implementation of products, packs and processes. Learns from other sites and puts best practices into place at supplier locations. Contributes by sharing ideas and practices to the Mars Q&FS community

•    Strong leverage of Global R&D functions to provide support and resource for Product and Process Implementation activities at External Manufacturing locations

•    Build network and be able to leverage external expertise upon request, specifically on non-core Mars legacy technologies.
•    Must be the link for the Global Q&FS entry door to all coman projects across all BUs.
•    Aim to set up the standard for both internal and external expertise when it comes to EMQM for the petfood network (recognition).
•    Beyond R&D functions, he/she must closely collaborate with Commercial (buyer/SQA) and Supply (IE and Engineering), as well as with the Demand side of the business when required (at regional and global levels).
•    He/she must closely work with the Sourcing scientist in the Global Petcare standardization team.

What are we looking for?

•    Desired: bachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science, Food Engineering or equivalent professional degree related to Science or Technology. 
•    Desired: lead auditor training certificate (attendance and exam)
•    Essential: proficient reading, writing and speaking English 
•    Minimum 5 years in a Food Manufacturing environment working in Quality, Food Safety (preferred), Engineering or Product/Process development, SQA.
•    Working knowledge of food processing and packaging technology is highly preferred
•    Knowledge of Quality and Food Safety Systems and Standards (Mars or other international standards) is preferred
•    Ambassador of Mars 1st principle and passion for products and brands
•    Significant knowledge of statistics, tools and process control and capability. Experience in a technical function, preferably with supply, commercial and operations interfaces
•    Proven track record of building collaborative and cross-functional relationships
•    Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to build supplier relationships and project teams
•    A proven track record in delivering projects
•    Standing alone
