This is a fantastic opportunity to join an emerging and exciting channel as the Customer Development Manager – Tesco.Com, reporting to Tesco Customer Director for Mars Petcare UK. The Customer Development Manager for Tesco.Com is part of a cross-functional customer account team and has a dotted reporting line into the eBusiness Director for Mars Petcare UK.



Reporting into the Tesco Customer Account Director, this role will be the lynchpin in driving digital understanding and execution within Tesco. As the commercial digital expert, the associate will be responsible for driving sales via the digital channel and building successful relationships internally and externally with the appropriate teams in Tesco and Dunnhumby (Tesco Media & Insights Agency) to ensure full omni-channel execution, ensuring Mars grows its share in the digital space.



  • Develop and implement the eBusiness vision for Tesco, including utilising the principles from the Online Success Models. Ensure this vision aligns with the overall customer strategy to ensure a truly omni-channel approach.
  • Define and implement clear digital business and category development strategies
  • Be responsible for delivering perfect digital store targets (taxonomy, search-endising, page content and substitution strategy) with customer.
  • Contribution to the account P&L through identified opportunities during the S&OP+ cycle.
  • Manage trade investment into activation activities using ROI trackers and delivering within specified budget.
  • Lead thinking by continually pushing boundaries via Test & Learn programs, ensuring strong KPI tracking to measure success and drive future scale.
  • Support key account negotiations and input to the total JBP.
  • Maintain close collaboration with the Customer Marketing team, the Head of eBusiness and the eBusiness capability team, to ensure the account achieves excellent execution online and develops a truly omni-channel approach.
  • Be the day-to-day head office contact for the digital teams within the customer / customer agencies, providing them with support and sharing best practice to deliver the agreed level of NSV growth and business shape within the overall account budget. Own and develop external digital contact matrix.
  • Be comfortable engaging and influencing multiple stakeholders, both internally & externally, at the same time with the added ability to forge relationships at a more senior level.
  • Build strong relationships with key internal / external stakeholders to ensure an omni-channel approach; Marketing & Customer Marketing Teams, Category & Insights, Customer Development Managers, eBusiness Team, Customer dot com team, Customer Petcare Commercial team & Dunnhumby.




We are looking for someone with a passion for the digital channel, with proven Customer Development experience. The successful candidate will be a natural communicator and exceptional at building networks both internally and with customers.


Requirements for the role:


  • Previous experience as a Customer Account Manager, ideally with Ecommerce experience.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Drive for results
  • Advanced negotiation skills.
  • Organisation agility: comfortable with being responsible for all internal planning processes.
  • Problem solving : ability to be decisive and overcome barriers
  • Comfortable with dealing with ambiguity and thrives in an entrepreneurial and rapidly changing environment (‘seen as new technology ‘early adopter’)
  • Understanding of eCommerce and digital environment/ differences
  • Confident of communicating and influencing at all levels of the organization
  • Analytical ability/Computer literate : essential usage of Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Strong oral, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Full Driving License
